First created in Colombia in the mid-’90s, Zumba will make your heart and soul speed up, removing the workout routine. It’s the trendiest workout and many celebrities are crazy for it. Why? Because it’s more than fitness yet providing all-over muscle toning and cardio exercise at an energetic pace.
It feels more like a party because it’s in fact a fusion of Latin rhythms and easy-to-pick-up dance choreography that includes calorie-burning intervals of cardio training and resistance exercise using your body weight. After a 60-minute Zumba workout you will have toned all major muscles, benefit the heart and burn calories all at the same time, not to mention the fun you’ll have had as the music is lively, and the mood is incredibly upbeat. Before participants know it, they’re getting fit and their energy levels are soaring! There’s no other fitness class like a Zumba. It’s easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating, often building a deep-rooted community among returning students.
Since it combines dance moves and aerobics to give you a total-body workout, this type of workout is targeted to women from their 20s to 50s but this is not exclusive, anyone can go to a Zumba workout class, even men, as long as the main rule is obeyed: modify and simplify each move as your body dictates. Of course, a kid cannot do the same moves as an older adult, so fitness experts decided to make specialty classes for different age groups, such as Zumbatomics for kids and Zumba Gold for older adults.
But, if you’re between 20 and 50, you will be allowed to sign in a Zumba class and to begin with a warm-up, then progresses to faster dance moves, interspersed with slower routines. The Zumba instructor leads the class by giving simple instructions on what type of movements to expect in the routine and uses verbal and directional cues because it’s all about listening to the music. Then the interactive part begins, as the instructor chooses one of the participants to come on stage because everybody in the class has to feel they are all one family enjoying a party together. But if you are a shy person and you’re not okay with that nobody will force you to do something you don’t want to do.
