Fried foods, carbonate drinks, fast foods or junk foods are some of the products that don’t belong in your menu if you made up your mind to follow Paleo diet by the book for a healthier life style.
To convince you that this diet may change your life, I’m going to tell you about a group of Californians who, despite the fact that they were going to the gym regularly and pretended they have a healthy life style, they didn’t get the results they wanted. So they decided that for nine weeks they should eat as our ancestors did, without processed foods, without having dessert after a meal and without refreshing drinks… The results? First, this diet forbids the intake of supplements because one of the main rules is to consume of fresh, natural products. As long as this rule is followed, the body has all the nutrients and vitamins he needs. Besides, the researchers who created this diet recommend eating in moderate portions every time the stomach gives the signal for hunger. There’s no place for boredom and routine in this diet because you can use your imagination and you can play with recipes so that the Paleo diet becomes the right life style for you. Soluble fibers, vitamins, antioxidants, omega 3, monosaturated fats and carbohydrates with a low glycemic index will become your best friends.
And since we’re talking about your best friends, here are some of them:
– You may not go hunting as our ancestors did, but you can buy from the supermarket or from a bio farm fresh chicken or red meat;
– Frozen fish is forbidden, only fresh fish is allowed;
– Sea fruits such as shells, oysters, etc.
– Raw vegetables and fruits;
– Nuts, almonds, pistachios, Macadamia or pecan nuts;
– Water and organic green tea.
We’ve seen who your best friends are, but let’s see you worse enemies:
– Sugar, vinegar, salt, processed oil, alcohol and frizzy drinks;
– Cereals – bread, pastas, rice, soya products and even tofu;
– Fermented products such as pickles, dairy.
– Vegetables that contain amydon, such as potatoes and peanuts;
– Junk food
Many of the products listed as enemies can be replaced with foods listed as friends. For instance, you can replace salt with chilli powder or with lemon juice, wheat flour or soy flour can be substituted with nuts flour or with almonds. Instead of sugar you can eat honey or maple syrup ad instead of vinegar you can use lemon juice. As spices you can use garlic, pepper or oregano, cinnamon or vanilla.
Therefore, having this diet is like a turn back time in the prehistoric age. Perhaps that’s why Fred, Wilma, Barney and Betty were so happy and healthy in the famous cartoon film. Perhaps they were having this diet too.
